Review Flash

After a year celebrating their 25th birthday with the cover album ‘The Best Years Of Our Lives and a small tour, the French masters of synths, WAITING FOR WORDS, are back with a new track, the single ‘Only Time Will Tell’. There has always been two different bands coexisting in one body. A dark and edgy one with songs like ‘Follow My Voice’, ‘Travelling Man’ or ‘Pain’, and a pop and melancholic one with ‘Miles Away’, ‘Cause I Do Believe’ or ‘Above The Sky’. This new single clearly falls into the 2nd and ‘Only Time Will Tell’ is designed as a pure WAITING FOR WORDS hymn. Co-written with former WFW’s member (Mycrotonik who was in the band from 2006 to 2010 and now acting under the name of noREAKTION), ‘ Only Time Will Tell’ sounds like a classic, and will certainly be. The single is backed by a cover of Serge Gainsbourg, ‘Requiem Pour Un C.’, and it’s clearly the dark side of the band here. While the original track from the 50’s or 60’s, can’t recall, was avant-garde as Gainsbourg was almost doing rap on a percussion hypnotic beat with no instrument, WAITING FOR WORDS fully orchestrated it, with some real guitars and organs (performed by Renaud Druel from the French band COFFEES & CIGARETTS) upon arppegiators and big synth, turning it into a kind of… dark - synth - groovy tune.

Conclusion: A must have and a very promising single that gets me even more curious on what to expect from their new album (currently under production and expected sometime in 2017).
