Review Flash

Some great bands disappear into obscurity without ever being heard by the right people, thanks to Jeremy Handh of Heaven and Hell Records I don’t have to die without getting to know a few obscure and really awesome bands. The obscurity of today is DAMIEN STEELE from Erie, Pennsylvania. Even the metal-archives give me a hard time as they have only bits and pieces of info on this high-quality Progressive Metal band. What I know is that DAMIEN STEELE formed in 1982 and disbanded roughly around the beginning 90s (of course after the release of the 1991 demo). Both original members Paul Staub and Steve Matusik passed away years ago so the rest of the bunch decided to once again re-release the self-titled full-length ‘Damien Steele’ (it was first released in 2005).

With the band being called “The Bridge between QUEENSRYCHE and FATES WARNING” I had mixed feelings about them but I get why people did say that. Songs like ‘The Whisper’ or ‘Sword of Vengeance’ really feel a lot like QUEENSRYCHE because of Mark Hopkins high pitched, rad vocals. In 2019 Heaven and Hell Records will be re-issuing the self-titled DAMIEN STEELE compilation, newly re-mastered by Jamie King and with new artwork by guitarist and artist Mike Learn. As well as a multi-page full-colour booklet with complete lyrics, photos and band history essay. Limited to 500 copies worldwide

Conclusion: If you dig Progressive Metal and bands like QUEENSRYCHE or CRIMSON GLORY check out DAMIEN STEELE and buy the record over at: https://heavenandhellrecords.bandcamp.com/album/damien-steele
