Review Flash

I’m not a professional when it comes to listening or reviewing Symphonic Metal but once in a blue moon, I give it a chance. SECRET CHORD from Portugal plays Symphonic Metal with a Death Metal twist, the vocals are shared between Raquel Subtil and Carlos Pereira (the harsh vocals are sung by Carlos, I would have loved it to be the other way around). Sound-wise this is a mix of classic Symphonic Metal with Progressive Metal undertones and even a few trips into Groove Metal. To be honest this is surprisingly different in its entirety which makes it quite enjoyable and nice to listen to. Raquel’s voice is more laid back than that of most vocalists in that genre but it serves the material just right. Instrumentally the band is top notch in my book (solid riff and rhythm work, audible bass and a madman on the drums, what more can we want?).

Conclusion: All in all, this was one of the more enjoyable bands in that genre, normally I stay away from anything symphonic but this is nice. Like NIGHTWISH? Buy this!
