Album Review
A LIQUID LANDSCAPE is a Dutch alternative band which already toured with bands like ANATHEMA, RIVERSIDE and KARNIVOOL. On their debut album, ‘Nightingale Express’, they represented a good mixture of melodic, atmospheric alternative rock. The album starts immediately with the longest track with nearly 13 minutes playing time ‘Nightingale Express’ creates a real good mixture from melancholic and dreamy passages combined with some harder parts. A LIQUID LANDSCAPE place most energy to the development of the mood and are always successful with this track. On ‘June Fifth’, a pleasant soft voice merged with well thought guitar sounds produce a smooth pattern which carries the listener gently to the next track.
‘Thieves Of Time’ uses massive guitar sounds in relation to other parts from this album. ‘Out of Line’ almost uses pop like and electronic elements and shows slowly the real potential of this CD. ‘Come Home’ and ‘Secret Isle’ are a worthy conclusion while ‘Secret Isle’ is very reminiscent to several songs from bands like ANATHEMA. The album ‘Nightingale Express’ offers a pleasant surprise even if it could not convince the entire length. Passion, detail and evocative atmosphere as well as beautiful melodies and interesting song structures are well thought presented. A real good but not always perfectly executed concept album which unfortunately could not fascinate the audience the hole time. However it is a worthy recommendation for friends of this kind of genre.
