Album Review

DADA ANTE PORTAS is a Rock band from Lucerne, Switzerland which has been founded in 1997 and has quite a good reputation in their native, Germany, and Denmark. In the over 10 years of the band’s existence, they’ve played a shipload of shows to get their music straight and direct to the people and in 2009, they’re going to release their already fifth album in Germany. The preceding single off the album ‘Taking Your Love’ already made curious for the new release, and all who’ve fallen in love with the track won’t have to wait much longer for more as the album is going to be released now on 25th September 2009.

The melodic, Indie pop tune ‘I Just Wanna Dance’ opens the album and embodies just what the title suggests; a call to move your limbs. ‘The Erratic Rage of Prey’ even gains more momentum and is much more a straight, classic rock music track. With ‘Another Promise’ comes a rather acoustically-tinged, balladry song into your homes erupting in a thick, yearning chorus that just burns into your heart. The ‘Tick-Tock Attack’ literally starts with the nervous ticking of a clock before it’s putting some kick ass guitar lines atop a groovy rhythm to the table. The feverish beat of ‘Be Ashamed!’ makes me tapping with my feet instantly and also apart from that is steeped with energy. “There’s a stream of sadness leaking into me” are the first words of the chorus and they hold true for what happens to you when listening to this song. It’s more of a subliminal kind of sadness, but it will flood your entire system eventually.

’Leave For Good’ not only is the musical farewell from this album, but also a very personal one as the lyrics of the melancholic song give away. It ends an album that offers its listeners songs for every mood and with varied arrangements. A recommendable release if not an overly extraordinary one in my opinion.
