Album Review
When Johan van Roy, Mister SUICIDE COMMANDO, and Stefan Bens, member of STIN SCATZOR, founded the EBM project LESCURE 13 back in 1989, they released a bunch of cassettes and one CD to make their fans happy. By the end of November 2013, their album ‘Too much Motherf***ers’ was released and should have brought happy faces not only to their fans but to all old school EBM fans. Good things come to those who wait. That’s how I would describe the feeling when listening to ‘Too much Motherf***ers’ after its release in 2013. It has lain down in the depths of CDs to review and was waiting desperately to be put in a CD player. I could hear it sigh a bit when it was found. But enough of being self-ironic about how it could take so long to write about it. Let’s start.
When holding the album in my hands for the first time, I was quite surprised that it included two CDs, one with new songs and a second one with demo stuff from the good old days. Starting CD1 with ‘Who has the right’ was definitely a good choice as this song is absolutely showing what to expect from the other tracks on this album. As a rough but melodic track including a harsh bass and melodic elements, this track is sending the listener a bit into EBM heaven. Favourite track for me on this piece of music is ‘todbereit’, I don’t really know why. It caught me with its melody and its typical EBM vocals and lyrics. Short, not many words, to the point. Second highlight for me was ‘total chaos’. The song is not chaotic, don’t worry. It fits to the rest of the album and is a song to freak out to in front of stage area when played live.
Don’t be surprised when putting the second disc into your CD-player. It’s not broken, it’s not a bad quality version of CD1 (or at least a few tracks of it), it’s a collection of demo versions. So handle it with care and take it as a little gift to the fans who might have been waiting for new LESCURE 13 tracks for so many years. In conclusion, I’d say it is an album for EBM heads, bass lovers, old school people. The typical SUICIDE COMMANDO fan who saw Johan van Roy’s face on the cover might be a bit surprised or even disappointed cause he expected something totally different from ‘Too much Motherf***ers’, maybe more melodies, more synthesizer elements, more ‘Bind, Torture, Kill’-like songs. The fans of old-school EBM stuff, on the other hand, should fall a bit in love with this album and its second disc.
