MYTHERY is a Danish progressive metal band that was formed in 2010. Drummer, composer and lyricist Nikolaj Holger met Laurits Emanuel (vocals), Simon Rabenhøj (guitars), Tobias Dall (bass) and Mikkel Rosenbeck (keyboards) while studying at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and recruited them to take part in his project. In the summer of 2012 the band entered the studio to record their debut album. The nine track album consist of four single tracks and the 30-minute title track of the album ‘The Awakening of the Beast’, which contains five separate parts. So much for the introduction...
I had to listen several times to this record to finally write a fair review, at first I didn`t like MYTHERY at all retrospective I have to admit I don`t know why. Laurits Emanuel`s voice is well trained and well used in the overall musical context. The band even has a little hit in the song ‘The Crusade’ this piece of music is very catchy in a poppy kind of way but adds a musical background that sometimes reminds me of some ‘Final Fantasy’ soundtracks (which is something I absolutely thoroughly love) if you love great melodies and don`t give up on a song even if it is sometimes a little campy than you will very likely love ‘The Crusade’.
The band reminds me of ENCHANT more than on only one occasion and that is meant as a great compliment. If you like proggy music and dodgy parts just listen to MYTHERY.
