Album Review

LOWOOD is Therese Johansson and Kicki Halmos, these two friends started LOWOOD in 2005 and after some demos they are finally here with their first album ‘Close to violence’. Therese Johansson writes all lyrics and sings beautifully on all the songs together with Kicki Halmos on backing vocals. ‘Crash’ is the first single from the album as well as the first song and it is a good introduction to the record and LOWOOD’s music. The title song ‘Close to violence’ is powerful and strong and one of my favourites on the record. ‘Sailor’ is a slow and very beautiful song. I like the lyrics; “Stones are falling from the sky / now my head hurts / I’ve just opened my eyes / I see a big black cloud sailing / closer and closer / You should keep it to yourself”. On the touching duet ‘It’s a mess’, Therese sings beautifully together with Christofer Åström (from FIRESIDE). ‘Close to violence’ is very well written and has good mix of songs that are beautiful and strong. This music is artistic, emotional and creative, the songs tell their stories and create as well as make you remember old feelings. I really like the sound of Therese Johansson’s voice and she sings beautiful and has a great voice. LOWOOD got some help on this album by other Swedish musicians like for example Andreas Hogby (TORPEDO), Pontus Levahn (TORPEDO and TIGER LOU) and Christofer Åström (FIRESIDE).
