I got to know this Swedish band under the name SLEAZY ROMANCE under which they’ve released an EP, entitled ‘No Spark’ in last year’s May with which they could celebrate some successes. One year later this band’s called ‘Light in your Life’ and releases their debut album of the same title in merely a few weeks from now.
The band’s kicking things off with ‘Emily Scott’, a track that was already included on last year’s EP and which still has a mesmerizing aura surrounding its heavily creeping and forceful drums, the pervading guitar work and the utterly desperate performance of vocalist Johann one gets shiver after shiver from. ‘We could be there’ starts a little more energetic with a slightly faster drum support and harsh riffing amidst the more brittle guitar lines. In the next moment the overwhelming sound carpet is almost completely gone and stripped to an essential line-up giving more actual emphasis on the vocals. The song springs back and forth between these two parts the whole time and still caters for enough variation so that no part sounds exactly the same. ’Sleeping Bag’ is gently dripping off the sound system and the clean, reverberating guitars give it a bit of a psychedelic feeling.
Sometimes they’re reminding me of morning dew falling from the leaves. Almost its entire duration it remains in its calm costume until it begins to change into… No you should figure that out yourself by listening to this track yourself. And of course the rest of the album as it deserves just as much attention. It is steeped with emotion and strong musicianship and it would be a shame if you’d miss this record
