Album Review

One of the most impressive bands within the days of the German Democratic Republic was without a doubt SILLY! Interesting, almost cryptic lyrics, an intelligent songwriting and a singer full of self-confidence that is still formative and present until now: Tamara Danz. To succeed her as a singer of this band, Anna Loos would have hard times, no doubt at all. But the way of Anna Loos to accept that inheritance is unique and exemplary. By singing the old songs in reminiscence of Tamara and with the respect because of her own being as a fan, she is not copying but even not exaggerating. With their last album ‘Alles Rot’ and their recent material on ‘Kopf an Kopf’, SILLY reached a new level of songwriting, although they still sound like SILLY always did, just a little bit fresher.
The new album is coined by personal themes and fates. Although the composing is almost the same like on ‘Alles Rot’, the new album ‘Kopf an Kopf’ seems to be calmer. More of the lyrics were written by Anna Loos and it seems that she “grew” somehow. There´s a certain development noticeable, relating to her role within the band – and it´s great. As a fan, you don´t have to make the mistake to compare the “old SILLY” with the “newer one” – it´s still the same even though certain conditions changed. The whole album is worth to listen to in one go – and on and on! It´s such a personal and empathetic release, that offers unequalled opportunities. For my own part, I´m completely convinced, that SILLY has a lot to tell in the next years… and I´m looking forward to listening to!
