Album Review

Three years after ‘Explosions’, THREE DAYS GRACE has now released their brand new album. This Canadian Rock band was formed in 1992, formerly under the name of GROUNDSWELL, but since 1997 under its current name THREE DAYS GRACE. Throughout these years, the band has released eight full length albums - including the latest. Their self-titled debut was released in 2003 for which they received numerous awards.

Now, this is their brand new album going by the name ‘Alienation’. And this one is an extremely special one for all the THREE DAYS GRACE fans, because the original singer ADAM GONTIER is back! He took a personal hiatus for eleven years, and since 2024 he announced to be back. Alongside MATT WALST, who had stepped in during GONTIER’s absence. Yes, you heard right: Both are sharing the vocals now. And let me tell you this much upfront: It is intense! In the best way possible.

With the usual full force, THREE DAYS GRACE start the album with ‘Dominate’. Strong and intense arrangements come blasting at you right away, getting you going along. A little more passionate and thoughtful ‘Apologies’ digs deep and leaves a mark on your soul. ‘Mayday’ is marching forward, strong and powerful, and pulls you along. ‘Kill Me Fast’ comes with a smooth and heartbreaking opening, with a voice cutting so deep. This song is proof of the perfect combination of both singers. ‘In Waves’ is yet another song that is cutting deep. Along with its relatable lyrics, this song will inevitably stick to you.

‘Alienation’ is a strong anthem, that will get you going along for sure. ‘Never Ordinary’ has a much slower beginning and a strong acoustic guitar during the first verse, which is superseded by a strong chorus. ‘Deathwish’ is pushing you again, telling you to live your life at its best. The thoughtful ‘Don’t Wanna Go Home Tonight’ slows down again, and gets you thinking. ‘In Cold Blood’ comes back at you with full force.  ‘The Power’ continues the powerful stream, with lyrics that speak from the heart again. Personal and authentic, ‘Another Relapse’ closes the album and leaves you behind in a void that can only be filled by hitting play again.

‘Alienation’ is a strong and powerful album. All lyrics are personal and deep. You will be able to relate to most of them. Wrapped in brilliant arrangements, this album surrounds you like a hurricane and walks with you. It is highly addictive and never tires, instead it empowers and recharges while listening. With the original singer ADAM GONTIER back, and MATT WALST staying on the vocals as well, this band has even more power now.

Both had and have strong, powerful and emotion-packed vocals already. Them combined is a guarantee for spine-chills and goosebumps. Now, every song will hit even deeper, that much is sure. I am impressed, to say the least, and hope to catch them live again soon to see this brand new force on stage. Until then I can only listen to this album over and over. It definitely got me hooked. And it is out to get you to. So check out ‘Alienation’ by the amazing - and now even more powerful - THREE DAYS GRACE.
