Album Review
VAMPIRE is a Swedish Death Metal band, founded in 2011. A year later, they released their first and only Demo, and recently put out their self-titled debut. Even though the overall style may be described as Death Metal, their music is strongly and declaredly influenced by the second wave of Black Metal. During roughly 37 minutes, VAMPIRE present very entertaining, straight-forward and harsh Death Metal with influences from Black but also Thrash Metal. ‘Orexis’ presents a fast and harsh opener, which however also contains melodic and skilled guitar work. The following ‘Howl From The Coffin’ is varies between very grooving, slower and rather fast parts. It is further dominated by a remarkable, almost catchy chorus.
‘At Midnight I’ll Possess Your Corpse’ is a very energetic song, which again contains a lot of groove. VAMPIRE manage to sound retro, thanks to the raw and yet clearly defined production, but at the same time add distinctive melodies and a certain Black ‘n’ Roll attitude to the otherwise rather traditional Old School Death Metal. In general, ‘Vampire’ is a very entertaining and diverting album, whose lyrics are most obviously influenced by horror and splatter themes, without sounding too cliché-like or over the top. Thus, their album is definitely recommended for any fan of good Death Metal and another promising release of the still young 2014.
