Summerbreeze Festival Day 1: All Ends, Emil Bulls, Saltatio Mortis, Arch Enemy, Behemoth, Halloween, Marduk plus pics of Graveworm, Kissin Dynamite, Paradise Lost, Primordial, Soilwork and The Wild Hearts
This year's Summerbreeze was going to be the 11th time for Metalheads, Gothics and Rockers to gather in Dinkelsbuehl to solemnize three days of good music. There were be 90 bands on 3 stages, without overlapping schedules for the main stages. And for those who came early, the party tent opened already on the 13th at 4 PM already. The first day of Summer Breeze came up with brilliant sunshine, almost a bit too hot. Anyway, lots of bands like SALTATIO MORTIS, ARCH ENEMY and MARDUK were on the rooster.
All Ends
All Ends is a Swedish Rock / Metal band. It was formed in 2003 in Gothenburg and is signed to Sony BMG / Gun Records. They are going to be the main support for the German band Oomph! in November. The most special thing about ALL ENDS is that they have two female lead singers, which gives them a very unique sound. http://www.allends.com/ / www.myspace.com/allends
Music & Performance
There was only a small audience since they were playing very early, but those who were there had a good reward for ALL ENDS showed themselves at their best side. The vocal parts were clear and the singers' voices were completing one another perfectly, not only in the slower, but also in the edgier parts. The only lack was that the drums were a bit too loud.

Emil Bulls
For many years EMIL BULLS have been an institution in German alternative music. They started in Munich in 1995 and have stayed in their current line-up since 2003. They're signed to Drakkar Records and just brought out their new album ‘The Black Path’ on the 4th of April 2008. http://www.emilbulls.com/ / www.myspace.com/emilbulls
Music & Performance
One really noticed EMIL BULLS weren't at Summer Breeze for the first time; they caught everyone's attention right at the start and guided their viewers slickly. The singer's ability to change his voice from screaming to singing softer parts was remarkable.

Saltatio Mortis
SALTATIO MORTIS stands for solid medieval rock and the use of both modern and medieval instruments. During their 8 years of existence this band has produced 7 albums and raised itself from a simple band playing at medieval markets to one of the best known acts in their section. http://www.saltatio-mortis.com/ / www.myspace.com/mittelalterpunk
Music & Performance
The energetic show electrified the crowd and the whole thing felt a little like a feast. There was a lot of dancing around both on and off stage. But still I think this band's charm works even better at smaller venues.

Arch Enemy
ARCH ENEMY was formed in Sweden in 1996 and has released 7 albums, 3 EPs and a DVD so far. Their true success began, when in 2001 their former singer Johan Liiva left the band and was replaced by the German singer / growler Angela Gossow. Currently they are signed to Savage Messiah Music.
Music & Performance
Had I not known the singer was a woman, I wouldn't have spotted the difference since she did her job as growler perfectly. ARCH ENEMY managed to bring their vibe from the first to the very last line of their audience.

Behemoth
BEHEMOTH is a Polish black / death metal band from Danzig, formed in 1991 under the name Baphomet. Their new live album will be released in October 2008 via Regain Records. http://www.behemoth.pl/ / www.myspace.com/behemoth
Music & Performance
Compared to their recorded music, their music sounded live more melodic and the vocals were better understandable, which was to me at least a great improvement.

Helloween
HALLOWEEN is one of the most successful metal bands from Germany. They have been in business for 24 years already and are committed worldwide. They are singed to SPV and will finish their touring several countries before they take a break. http://www.helloween.org/ / www.myspace.com/helloween
Music & Performance
Viewing this show gave a little flashback to the 80's power metal. I think it was very good but unfortunately it wasn't the best audience for this band, so the crowd lacked the drive a little. Still I had expected better from a headliner.

Marduk
This band was created in Sweden in 1990 with the goal, to form one of the most brutal metal acts ever. They are signed to Blooddawn / Regain Records and in April 2008 they re-released some of their classic albums. http://www.marduk.nu/ / www.myspace.com/truemarduk
Music & Performance
For my taste it was simply awful, this I must admit. The drums were way too loud, so you had difficulties to hear the other instruments. However the audience seemed not to mind and was rather fond of them.
