Review Flash

FATES WARNING is well known, and I mean well know, to every prog interested human being on this planet (or at least I`d like to think so). The band around guitar hero Jim Matheos was formed in 1983 and is widely considered one of the best bands of all time, the album ‘Awaken the Guardian’ is deemed a cult classic among head bangers around the world and the following records only consolidated their status. I personally prefer Ray Alder to John Arch because of the amount of time I need to acclimate to the band`s music. Where arch exhausts the listener with his high pitched voice and his almost hysteric and very challenging way of changing the tone pitch Alder is easier to listen to and faster to stomach musically. In spite of everything FATES WARNING is no music for someone who has a small attention span, the listener need acoustic steadiness to fully comprehend the music, and the newest record ‘Darkness in a Different Light’ makes no exception. The acoustic pattern is brilliant as expected but at times a bit tiring (you risk losing sight of the central theme).

Conclusion: If you are into prog music and you have the time and the patience for a musical experience out of the ordinary, then you should indulge in FATES WARNING`s ‘Darkness in a Different Light’.
