Review Flash

Formed in 2004, the quintet from Berlin soon established as a crushing live band. In 2007, after their second album ‘Gathering Storm’ (released in 2006), they replaced their former singer (whose name is not known to the all-knowing internet) with Norman Dittmar. In 2008 the band needed a new drummer so they added Steve Mittag to their roster. After this few adjustments it seemed THUNDER AND LIGHTNING is unstoppable. With their third album ‘Purity’ (2008), the band gained good critics as with their fourth record ‘Dimension’ (2010). In 2010, they scored their first record deal with Hammersound Records. The deal landed them tours with THE SWORD and PRO-PAIN.

In August 2013 they released the new record ‘In Charge of the Scythe’ which I am reviewing right now. The sound of ‘In Charge of the Scythe’ is very coherent and I really happen to like Norman Dittmar’s voice (a mixture of VOLBEAT’s Michael Poulsen and BLIND GUARDIAN’s Hansi Kürsch). Guitar, drums and bass create a fitting landscape for Dittmars`s voice to travel through, supporting him instead of drowning him out. The record caught me on surprise because I didn`t reckon with its quality (sorry guys I hear a lot of stuff). I am really happy that I stumbled over these guys on Twitter.

Conclusion: If you like BLIND GUARDIAN (without dragons) or VOLBEAT (without gangsters) you will want to check these guys out and maybe buy their records and their collection of shirts, long sleeves and zippers (which are really affordable too).
