After KARI RUESLATTEN has wrapped herself in silence for several years she is now on the musical radar again. Her new album 'Time to tell' is a lot different from the progressive doom metal sound she played in the 90s with her band The 3rd and the Mortal. Now she engages in acoustic singer-songwriter music which is characterized by a plain and simple guitar and piano accompaniment framed by soft drums. Her voice has been compared to that of TORI AMOS and KATE BUSH. In some parts a similarity to VIENNA TENG and LOREENA MCKENNITT can be recognized. The songs transport many different moods: Slight melancholy, deep sadness, disappointment, regret, yearning, but also hopefulness, confidence and mostly romantic feelings. Each song describes the essence of a particular experience, sometimes several moods are combined in one song.
Conclusion: KARI RUESLATTEN reveals another facet of her musicality, oscillating between a sometimes touching authenticity on the one hand, on the other a smugness reminding of the superficial simplicity of pop music.
