With genre-straddling dexterity, Manchester’s MIDAS FALL perfectly hit their stride on third album ‘The Menagerie Inside’. A dazzling and dizzying whoosh of fragile vocals and delicate rhythms offset with moments of harsh and starkly cruel beauty, songs swoop off into some SIGUR ROS meets MOGWAI horizon, always returning to delight in unexpected and magnificent ways. There is something intensely special at work here, and the rewards for letting this seep into your consciousness and ruffle your expectations and preconceptions is limitless.
Conclusion: A beautiful, lonely, haunting, abrasive, intelligent set of songs by a band who really do deserve the future to be theirs.
