Review Flash

ANTIOCH from Windsor in Canada were formed in 2013, one of three better known Canadian bands that are connected to the New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal. These guys formed ANTIOCH in a broken-down garage in Emeryville, Ontario, fuelled by the love for IRON MAIDEN, MANOWAR and JUDAS PRIEST. The bands taste and own style is clearly rooted in the best of ages when it comes to heavy music: the eighties! Of course, that is also what these guys sound like, highly melodic, fast-paced, dynamic and with kick-ass vocals. The album title ‘V’ stands for the bands fifth endeavour (two EPs and three full-length outputs). To this point the release rhythm is quite reliable. The faster songs remind me of bands like VULTURE and sometimes even 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, songs like ‘On The Ledge’ even have moments that remind me of 80s ALICE COOPER when it comes to catchiness and melody.

Conclusion: I like the direction this whole record takes, ANTIOCH is on a good way to be something special. These guys are one hit single away from a hype.
