Review Flash

Most bands that don’t take their-selves not too seriously don’t manage to catch my interest, GREEN MACHINE already successfully did so twice. With song titles like ‘Beer Metal Baptized’, ‘King Erectus’ or ‘Batman’ you know exactly how serious it gets but just like with GAMABOMB the music is a rather stark contrast to the sometimes-tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Musically there is not much that has changed since the last entry ‘Eat Your Heart Out’ but the guys from Einbecker did improve upon their trademarks which are: groovy, catchy tunes that remind me of a punk rock infused mix of KYUSS and a bit of PANTERA (with a hit of VOLBEAT on this one).

My favourite is ‘Call Of The Void’ because it broaches the issue of freaking out and snapping (“I lost my shit today, now I am a weirdo”). I also appreciate that Tassilo’s vocals did improve, he was decent already but now he sounds a bit smoother and more controlled. Daniel Streckenbach’s riffs clearly point out why the band named themselves after one of KYUSS most popular songs (the oscillation between Stoner and Groove is clearly felt). The Rhythm section (Manuel Queisser on drums and Maik Seemann on bass) complete what I mentioned about the Desert Rock infused riffs, there is a LOT of groove to be heard here and throughout the majority of the songs there are more than just a few DANZIG / VOLBEAT moments when it comes to Tassilo’s vocals. All in all, this is a hybrid of influences that I did not experience until yet (Rock and Roll meets Stoner Rock meets Groove Metal).

Conclusion: One of the surprises of the year, check it out!
