Review Flash
Almost a year ago I wrote a review of ANCIENT SETTLERS EP ‘Autumnus’ and as I listen to the first full-length while reading my old review a smile flashes across my face. One of the things I said about the band last April was that I did not think that they would stay unsigned for very long and here we are one year later and these guys are obviously signed by Crusader Records. ANCIENT SETTLERS did not change up their sound but rather defined it a bit more (as bands usually do, Sherlock). The sound is heavy as fuck yet complex enough to not bore someone who might take a liking to more melodic music. The vocals are still harsh but not as harsh as you would suspect them to be with a Death Metal band. The riffs and the drumming are tight as can be and the background is literally plastered with melodic and almost progressive keyboard / synth soundscapes (thanks to that element there is a bit of a FEAR FACTORY feel here and there). The international hybrid headbangers write and play music that dares you to listen to it more than just once so you can really experience every layer that was created and used to build something that never bores the listener.
Conclusion: This is a band that never fails to surprise and that is something that is very rare nowadays.
