Emil Bulls - The Black Path

If you read such things like: Emotional, unique, eulogistic, angry and so on you can get a small hint of how the album might sound like, but what is breaking out off the speakers will hit you off guard, starting with a tiny intro passed through with various guitar sounds before the hell breaks loose with the first song ‘To End all Wars’ which directly carries you off into an undertow of ultra fast drumming, hammering guitar riffs and angry vocals. One trademark of the songs on ‘The Black Path’ is the use of hymnal, melodic and catchy choruses infecting your ears and staying there for quite a time. In ‘The most evil Spell’ they’re setting a new benchmark for speed (At least for me). Various rhythm and tempo changes accompany this song, which is - regardless of its rather short length –- packed with energy. ‘All in Tune with the Universe’ begins with staccato-esque guitar work just to move on to a very moderate strophe later breaking out into angry screams and conjuring up in a powerful melodic chorus.

‘Pledge Allegiance to the Dammed’ is filled with energetic drums and mostly clean vocals. ‘Wolfsstunde’ has a very soft intro carried by gentle guitar and I guess I’ve also heard some strings in the background but everything’s turning upside down with a thunder of anger and heavy riffs. Speaking of anger ‘Nothingness’ is full of that with lashing drums and Christoph’s screaming vocals that lead into another catchy emotional chorus. After ‘Collapsing Memorials’ which will send you through various emotional states, one of my favourites ‘Close to the Wind’ follows. Especially I love the chorus which is so full of emotion and in company with the excellent guitar work it’s just brilliant... Same with ‘Pure Anger (The Hex)’ raising a wall of sound in the listener’s room. With ‘Glad to be with you again’ another powerful rock song the album dies away and leaves you exhausted but satisfied…
