MONO ANIME is DJ Joost G from the Netherlands who’s a very renowned artist in the scene over there. First releases of his project date back to 2005, but meanwhile his discography encompasses a variety of releases on different labels. His newest achievement as MONO ANIME has been dubbed with the name ‘Like a Machine’.
The first track ‘Rhythem’ leaves no further room about where the inspiration for the album title came from. The break beats were being constructed with exact precision as though no human being was behind this project. In the way of evolving, heavier, well-distorted beats join the party and orchestral darkness floats along the way as well. The title track with its 16 minutes of length presents to the listeners a maimed inferno of noise-inflicted power electronics that keep on banging against your eardrums until you scream. At about 8 minutes into the track, something like a melody appears. Actually, it’s rather a mood that comes from many connected sustained tones, glowing in the blackness. ‘Economics Maintain The Situation’ disappointed me with a in my opinion too uninspired sounding rhythmic groundwork. The dance floors will be filled nonetheless, I suppose.
’Advanced Rhythm’, just as the title indicates, overruns you with interlocking sound structures beyond your normal listening habits, bathed by an insane amount of noise that almost buries the original structures under its harsh waves. MONO ANIME’s ‘Like a Machine’ is definitely not normal and above the average, if sometimes a bit too monotonous for my tastes. Folks that are into the Noise/Breakcore/Industrial genre should not miss this.
