In 2007, PROJECT PITCHFORK mastermind Peter Spilles and Italian vocalist Jinxy formed this duo with the interesting name SANTA HATES YOU. They soon released the first album entitled with `You’re on the Naughty List´ in the same year. This December, shortly before Christmas, hating Santa is bringing gifts to lovers of industrial and electro style: Strictly limited to 2,000 copies and containing the song `The Bonus 1.0´, a cover version of AND ONE´s `Deutschmaschine´ and six different versions of the title track, the new EP `Rocket Heart´ will be available as a digi pack. `Rocket Heart´ is a very rhythmic up-tempo track living on the voices of Spilles and Jinxy that couldn’t be more different. The male vocals appear raspy and powerful whilst the lascivious female ones are characterized by their obvious seductiveness. The telegraphic style-like lyrics are pretty simple and rather unspectacular, but the whole piece is best-described by the term “dynamic”.
Though SANTA HATES YOU is well-known for not being a representative of happy bubble gum pop, `Rocket Heart´ radiates good vibrations and invites to dance along. The instrumental `The Bonus 1.0´ is introduces by samples and comes up with kinda weird sound effects and pumping beats. I guess there aren’t many club-goers who don’t know the AND ONE dance floor filler `Deutschmaschine´. Sticking closely to the original with regard to the melody, the SANTA HATES YOU version additionally scores with the expressive duet style we had already listened to on `Rocket Heart´. Comparable to a “beauty and the beast”-metaphor, Peter Spilles and Jinxy create an exciting antagonism contributing to the overall effect of the project in general.
