ZODIAC, the Rock’n’Roll poster band from Münster, Germany is at it again! After their celebrated first two records ‘A Bit of Devil’ and ‘A Hiding Place’ (both to great critical acclaim) the retro rock outfit is here again with a brand new record called ‘Sonic Child’. Everyone that had a great time listening to the earlier records should feel at home pretty fast, the sound is pretty much the same they always do but that’s a trademark I guess. Nick Van Delft`s voice is smooth, calm and exactly what the band needs at any given musical moment.
The rhythm section is tight like the Death Stars ventilation shaft, the guitar is used very selfless and just lines Van Delft`s voice (no insane guitar solos that kill every dog in a 3 miles radius) everything serves the melody and composition (okay yeah there are solos but they are based mostly on the songs structure, no Malmsteen bullshit). Clear highlights on this fine piece of music are: ‘Sonic Child’, ‘Holding On’ and ‘Out of the City’. If you are already a fan you know your duty and if not I will state it precisely: buy ‘Sonic Child’ dude!!!
PS: a possible side-effect could be the urge to drink whiskey or smoke while listening to this record.
