Burgnächte Day 1: Scream Silence, The Dreamside, Clan of Xymox

Unfortunately we drove from one traffic jam into another and so we just arrived in Roßlau when Scream Silence were already playing. We were looking forward to our last open-air festival since several weeks. We joined the festival already last year and we knew that this will be one of these special weekends. Roßlau is a nice, little town in Saxony and the festival is set on the area in and around the castle. The beautiful meadows and little river around the castle create a kind of magical place. The organizers planned a festival with some well-known and some new underground acts. Like the last year, this all were perfect conditions for a special festival full of the spirit of the early gothic years. Additionally, this festival was our possibility to meet some friends we can only hug once or twice a year.

Dracul - Amstelveen 2006

This was certainly not the easiest venue to get to, or get back from but it is a nice venue, with great sound, a nice café and a friendly staff.  The venue opened up later that planned so the café was a nice place to wait. When it opened there was no row of people. To be honest there were hardly any people, but it turned out to be a night to remember after all.

Appelpop - Tiel 2006

Within Temptation, After Forever

Every year, on the second Saturday in September, a festival is held in Tiel, one of the oldest towns in The Netherlands. This festival, called "Fruitcorso", is to celebrate the harvest of the fruit produced in the Betuwe area. This area is famous for its large fruit orchards, containing apples, pears, plums and cherries. In the same weekend there's also a pop festival in Tiel, called Appelpop. It's one of the largest free pop festivals in The Netherlands. Most of the bands that play on this festival are Dutch and there is a lot of variation in music styles, like pop, rock, metal and hiphop. We only saw the bands we were interested in: Within Temptation and After Forever.

The last night at the camping ground has been unbelievable cold and so I was already waiting for the coffee stall to open. It was going to be a long day again. Yes, I know why I like hotels.

Bazar Curieux - Rotterdam 2006

Sometimes you just by accident stumble upon festivals that have been around for a long time but till now didn't get any of your attention. Bazar Curieux has had it's share of promo this year however. Not only did they get the controversial Peaches as headliner but maybe more important, due to the closure of Nighttown (it's planned venue), they moved to a new location for their 15th aniversary. They selected the big and high class dance club 'Now & Wow' which was offered as a replacement by their very music minded manager Ted Langebach. Industrial elements all around because Now & Wow is inside a former grain silo in the Rotterdam harbour this seemed to be a great place for this bizar event.
