Godsmack

With three number one albums, four Grammy nominations and the record as a Rock act with the most top 10 radio hits in the US singles charts, GODSMACK from Boston, Massachusetts, can confidently be counted among the great legends of Hard Rock. The band has been active since 1995 and has sold over 20 million albums worldwide during that time. Her last long-player to date, ‘When Legends Rise’ from 2018, went straight into the top 10 of the US Billboard charts and was certified gold. Now the next chapter is coming up, because the band has been in the studio since January to record their eighth album. GODSMACK will then go on a world tour, during which they will also come to Germany in October this year to rock the stages in Cologne, Offenbach, Berlin and Munich.

When Sully Erna decided to form a new Rock band in 1995, he had already spent around 20 years in the Rock business. After a few position changes in the early phase, GODSMACK recorded their debut in 1997, here still with Erna on drums, since no drummer wanted to stay longer than a few weeks. At first, they sold their first record self-distributed and at concerts on the US East Coast, until a record label took notice of them and officially released their debut ‘Godsmack’ again in 1998. The album immediately rose to number 22 on the US Billboard charts. Almost overnight, GODSMACK became the hottest new band between Hard Rock, Heavy Metal and Post Grunge.

Already with the successor ‘Awake’ in 2000, GODSMACK rose to become one of the hit guarantors of US Rock. For the first time they made it into the top 5 of the US charts with the album and achieved double platinum status. The following year they received their first of four Grammy nominations, and the world tour was a phenomenal success. Since then, GODSMACK have been an integral part of the Hard Rock map. The three following albums ‘Faceless’ (2003), ‘IV’ (2006) and ‘The Oracle’ (2010) all reached the top position in the US charts and the singles were also consistently successful. 17 songs made it into the top 5 on the US rock radio charts, eleven of them even to the top.

With the release of their sixth album ‘1000hp’ in 2014, they received a special honour: Boston Mayor Marty Walsh officially declared August 6 as “Godsmack Day”. Since then, the city has celebrated one of its most successful artists every year on this date. With their last long player ‘When Legends Rise’, Sully Erna, guitarist Tony Rombola, bassist Robby Merrill and drummer Shannon Larkin remembered their beginnings and original strengths. There was a special reason for this: The debut album celebrated its 20th birthday around the release of ‘When Legends Rise’, so the band came full circle. What this means for the upcoming record is currently still open. For the time being, it remains exciting about one of the most important acts of the contemporary US Rock scene. But in October 2022, the new songs can finally be experienced live, including in Cologne, Offenbach, Berlin and Munich.
