Review Flash

POWERTRYP from Erlangen, Germany is active since 2010; their first demo came out in 2015 and now we finally get our hands on their longs awaited debut ‘Midnight Marauder’. I did not have these lads on my radar when the mail arrived but you sure as fuck can believe me that I am aware of their existence now! POWERTRYP play old-school Heavy Metal with a modern but not too smooth overall production; you can still hear and feel the rough edges exactly where they belong. Vocalist Johannes “Gonzo” Korda shortly sang for critically acclaimed epic demigods ATLANTEAN KODEX when Markus Becker was not available. The band is influenced by a wide array of bands like OVERKILL, IRON MAIDEN and many more, Johannes “Gonzo” Korda’s vocals are rather raw but he is able and willing to show off his nice range in many of the tracks (there are high notes as well as a good developed mid-range that sounds really fine). The riff-based compositions are firmly rooted in the best the scene has released in the last 30 years. Cole Stabler and Stefan Dziallas know how to write and deliver the goods when it comes to nice six-string attacks, Frank Prillip plays a savage bass and Michael Zerrath is an energetic and precise battering machine that works his kit like a laser-focused demon. If you like your metal rough, melodic and fast paced you should fasten your seatbelts and get ready for the impact of ‘Midnight Marauder’!

Conclusion: If you hunger for classic metal played by a band without dudes pushing 65 years of age, check this out now!
