Review Flash

EGO ABSENCE from São Paulo, Brazil play together since 2014 and ‘Serpent’s Tongue’ is the band’s first full-length release. Sound-wise this is well made Power Metal in the vein of European Bands like FIREWIND, SONATA ARCTICA or HELLOWEEN. The trademarks of EGO ABSENCE are fast-paced highly melodic compositions that are defined by their influence yet not being dominated by them. The pacing is a bit different than the typical Euro Power Metal band as I get the impression that south American bands are a bit braver when it comes to experimenting with pacing and ethnic influences and rhythms. Vocalist Raphael Dantas is exactly what you need for this over-the-top kind of music, he shines with ease on all tracks, singing versatile no matter if hitting high notes or killing it in the mid-range. The riffs and melodies of Guto Gabrelon are complex yet never overburdening the listener. Augusto Bordini’s drumming is consistently awesome and Fernandes’ bass game is top notch as well. The lyrics are contradicting the overall vibe as Dantas sings about never giving up no matter how hard the struggles yet sounding quite positive while doing so but hey, that is Power Metal right? If you dig the more European approach to Metal you will find 59:08 minutes of joy with ‘Serpent’s Tongue’...

Conclusion: Need positivity in your Metal? Check this out!
