Review Flash

ARSENA are no strangers in my history of writing as I already reviewed their last EP ‘Dawn Of The Second Sun’. The Band itself was formed in 2018, their first full-length named ‘State Of Affairs’ came out just a year later. What I noticed is that these guys seem to rehearse a lot because it seems that they do play way more technical and really honed their skills since the last output in 2020, don’t get me wrong I really liked the last EP but this is more refined, complex and over all just really good. Every now and then it feels like their style switches between technical to downright progressive which is no simple task, especially when it sounds intentional.

Even production and mixing-wise this was taken up a notch, the sound is crisp as fuck and aside from the two guitars (played by Robb Hollowell and vocalist Luke Albert) the mix even allows you to clearly pinpoint the bass, not to forget that the drummer is a beast. What I really dig is that aside from tech thrash that sometimes sounds like progressive metal these guys stay true to the roots and sometimes use crossover-esque gang-shouts (not very often but I did notice). Just good violent, complex fun for people who like to rock out and drink a few cold ones. Another strong contender for the record of the year list.

Conclusion: Check out ‘Pioneer’ and ‘Dreams In The Slaughterhouse’, both are mid-tempo tech trash tracks you might like.
