Fortarock Festival Part II: Parkway Drive, Ghost, Dark Tranquility, Triptykon, Channel Zero
After two previous successful editions, the third Fortarock festival was taking place at Park Brakkenstein in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. As every year, I’m surprised (and very pleased!) to see how the organisation managed to create a line-up of well-known names, both old and new. Fortarock treats its audience to a lot of different flavours in the big pool of metal and hard rock. All there was left to wish for was a day without rain and some quick feet to keep up with the tight schedule. Fortarock is a one-day festival with two stages, 14 bands (KVELERTAK – VALIENT THORR – GOD DETHRONED - AGNOSTIC FRONT – GOJIRA – PARKWAY DRIVE – GHOST – DARK TRANQUILITY - TRIPTYKON – CHANNEL ZERO – PARADISE LOST – SACRED REICH – IMMORTAL – ARCH ENEMY) and no break in between.

Castle Rock Festival 2011 Day 2: Oomph!, Megaherz, Crematory, Van Canto, Lord of the Lost, Golden Apes, Stahlmann
While we were sweating during the previous year’s Castle Rock, it was rather chilly this time with temperatures going down below 15°C at the evening. But luckily it stayed dry, the sun was breaking through the clouds and we were prepared for the second festival day having OOMPH! as headlining act. But before the band around singer Dero entered the stage, we hat six more or less fantastic bands entertaining the audience, opener being STAHLMANN.

Blackfield Festival 2011 Day 2: Schandmaul, Eisbrecher, Combichrist, Letzte Instanz, Assemblage 23, A Life Divided, Reaper, Sono, Stahlmann, Blitzmaschine
After the first festival day was rather cold and rainy, the second one was just the opposite. It was war, nearly hot even, and the sun was shining. So, the mood within the audience was much better. Instead of rain clothes and a sea of umbrellas, you saw people wearing t-shirt and shorts. Umbrellas were just used to protect from the sun, and not from the rain. Even before the first band, BLITZMASCHINE, entered the stage, STAHLMANN were there for the first signing session of the day and a lot of people were there for signatures and pics with the band…

Wave Gotik Treffen Day 3: Empyrium, Eyes Shut Tight, Barren Earth, Vinterland, Helheim, Dornenreich, Girls under Glass, Lake Of Tears, Tiamat
The WGT Saturday was totally standing under the metal banner for us with highlights like TIAMAT headlining the evening in the old exhibition hall 15 or the very first live show of EMPYRIUM, opening our day in the wonderful Pantheon. There was just one exception in the full metal experience, the “all-stars” show of GIRLS UNDER GLASS at Parkbühne…
