Album Review

New Jersey’s OVERKILL are a rock-solid part of the first Thrash Metal bands since 1982. With METALLICA, EXODUS and SLAYER this band created a new form of Heavy Metal. Their first record, ‘Fell the fire’, was released in 1985 by Jonny Zazula’s Megaforce Records. ‘The Grinding Wheel’ is the 18th record from this band.

Thrash Metal is one of my favourite Metal styles. The energy of this record is good. Some heavy guitars, good drums and a bass you can hear between the other instruments. ‘The Grinding Wheel’ was produced by OVERKILL and Andy Sneap. They did a good and solid work! Some of the songs (e.g. the opener ‘Mean Green Killing Machine’) are powerful and straight. But some other songs (e.g. ‘The Long Road’) sound more like uninspired. This album does not encourage me to head-bang. I can listen to it when it’s playing in the background. It’s just unbalanced. And now my opinion about the vocals: it is exhausting to listen to it. I know, many fans like his voice. If you are a fan of this band you can buy this record without listen to it before. All other should listen to it before you buying it.
