K17, Berlin, Germany11th November 2007
Out of Line Festival: Hocico, Spetsnaz, Proceed, Din[A]Tod, Ashbury Heights
The independent EBM/Industrial label Out of Line proudly presented its highlights this evening, on the 4th date of the Out of Line Festival tour. New hot acts as well as established stars were featured in the line-up, with HOCICO being the absolute top act of the evening. Musically, the line-up was very varied, from soft melodic EBM to rough industrial. Unfortunately, the quality of the shows was just as varied. The festival featured surprises as well as real disappointments, of which I can only hope or even expect to be better on CD. Too bad, for those bands could really have benefited from this festival fuelled by HOCICO. And that is no understatement; the K17 was completely full on a Sunday evening, and no other EBM / Industrial band but HOCICO can pull that off.

Orkus International Festival Tour: London after Midnight, Kirlian Camera, Dope Stars Inc., Lola Angst
At the Halloween evening, the Orkus International Festival Tour made a stop in the German Capital where four bands occupied the ColumbiaClub. As the Orkus Magazine is one of Europe’s leading Goth magazines and features different styles of dark music, also the accompanying tour had a varied line-up in stock and presented something for the old-school Goth fans as well as for the lovers of the more electronic styles.

The Birthday Massacre, Psycho Luna
THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE is a band that attracts a very varied audience; Goth, Emo, Lolita, Punk, girls in sexy school uniforms and even rabbits. Or at least, that was what the Berlin audience in the K17 looked like that night. Reasonably filled during PSYCHO LUNA, and completely stuffed during THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE, it stays surprising how the K17 always empties up so quickly after a gig. Even the announcement of a chat and signing session after the concert by THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE couldn’t keep most of the Berlin audience from going home as fast as they could. Strange people, those Berliners. However, before the concerts started the room was full of positive tension. And not for nothing.

Matrix, Bochum, Germany 3rd November 2007
Pink Turns Blue
This autumn Saturday night, the Matrix in Bochum had a very special concert to offer to old-established fans and new ones: the well-known Indie/Dark Wave formation PINK TURNS BLUE, started in the mid-80ies, was going to appear. The huge Matrix was nearly empty when we arrived, but nevertheless the place in front of the stage was pretty crowded. You could see people of all kinds and ages, ranging from old-school Goths to metal heads and rather "normal" audience. The atmosphere was quite familiar, and it should remain like this during the whole evening.

Röhre, Stuttgart, Germany8th November 2007
Itchy Poopzkid, Benzin
My first thought was, who and what the hell is ITCHY POOPZKID and what funny name they have. So I could confess that I never heard of this band before neither their name nor one of their songs, but this should change today. A good friend of mine mentioned that concerts of ITCHY POOPZKID are really funny and reassembled a great party. So I had certain expectations for this evening, a little curious about the things that would come. Somehow it was a little disturbing for me to realize that I am one of the few older people around. The average age of ITCHY POOPZKID fans is rather under 20 and so I felt a little bit wrong here. The concert was completely sold out and the fans swarmed the Röhre like a wandering ant hive. The space in front of the stage was ready to burst and all the fans waited eagerly for the beginning. Shortly after eight o’clock more and more fans filled the space in the Röhre and there was no possibility to trip over. You could see some older people here and there, whether they were worried parents who wanted to see what their children were doing tonight or real fans of this music couldn’t be said yet, but would show at the end of this evening when the temperatures rose and the adrenalin was pumped through the body.
