No turning back, Textures, Das Ich, After Forever, Suicide Commando
The infamous concert club 'de Baroeg' in Rotterdam has hosted a lot of bands, many too big too really fit in the small venue but the name just keeps drawing the bands back in. This year it was the 25th aniversary of 'de Baroeg' and they decided to organize a free open air concert. A selection of bands that represent a cross section of music scenes of 'de Baroeg' featured the bill for this first festival. Word is out that there should be a next edition and to be honest they did a good job so why not. As for those Rotterdam politicians who wanted to close the venue: drop by next time and see how much 'de Baroeg' pleases the crowds.

Taubertal Festival, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany
11th – 13th August 2006
Taubertal Festival Day 2: Spitting Off Tall Buildings, Christina Stürmer and band, Boozed, La Vela Puerca, Eat the Gun, Donots, ASP, Turbonegro, Schandmaul
The second day of the festival began with rain. Knowing that the festival ground is set on a beautiful meadow we expected some problems. This was proofed to be true. Reaching the meadow we saw mud, lots of mud. The special guiding tour with the organizers and the German Nature Office started quickly past midday. With many interesting details they summarized the history of the “Sounds for nature”-project and the part of the Taubertal Festival in it. Although the meadow is used for this festival it is still a part of the FFH-areas. These are special areas, which are protected to keep the nature. We got to know many facts about the organisation of the festival, i.e. how to get electricity in a meadow deep in a valley. It was the first time we saw something like that on a festival.

Autumn, Sengir (+ gothic fashion show)
We hadn't seen Autumn for a while, so we were curious how they would be live nowadays. During the last few years there have been some line-up changes within the band and the question is of course if these changes turn out to be constructive or destructive for the band. We supposed the venue would be very quiet because the band had to compete with Epica, who played their last special club performance in The Hague the same evening.

Epica
This was anounced by Epica as a special show, where they would have some surprises in store for the fans. It is also one of the last clubshows in Holland for some time to come, because the band is leaving for a month long tour of the States by mid September. When I got in about half an hour before the show, the venue was already pretty packed for what promised to be a special evening...

Steenwijk, The Netherlands
29th July 2006
Satyrian, Pleurisy, Legion Of The Damned, Vomitory
When I first heard about a festival named "Stonehenge" I immediately thought about the impressive magic circle of standing stones in England and associated this festival with - of course - Celtic music. But when I started reading more about this festival in Steenwijk it had to be noticed that there wasn't anything Celtic about it at all... When reading the line-up of artists it became clear that it would be some heavy and loud happening instead. You wouldn't expect a band like "Prostitute Disfigurement" for example to play some laid-back, enchanting melodies featuring Celtic instruments like a harp and bodhran. On the Stonehenge website it was mentioned that the festival was sold out, but it didn't really seem so crowded when we arrived at the location...
