Heather Nova - “Pearl” Tour Europe 2019 – Support: Lisa Who
The dark month of November started in a perfectly cosy way. HEATHER NOVA, the Bermudian singer/ songwriter who grew up on a sailboat in the Caribbean and went on to sell over 2 million albums and play over 600 shows in her 20-year career to date, came to Cologne to promote her newest album ‘Pearl’. A long line of people in their thirties and forties waiting patiently in line in the light rain outside the smug Gloria Theater proved that the singer has not been forgotten since her first appearance in Cologne in 1994. Even the typically omnipresent ticket hawkers were conspicuously absent, as the concert has sold out months ago, and no one seemed to want to miss the appearance of the Bermudian singer.

Counterfeit - Support: Vukovi
At the Pol’and’Rock Festival 2018 I saw the performance of a band that impressed me very much. It wasn’t only the energy and unclenched power that the band was transmitting but it was especially their frontman who was almost exerting himself. Sweating, free of upper body, tattooed and unbelievably present he even dared to go in front of the stage and raged with the crowd despite the concerns of the security forces. Later I learned that it was the band COUNTERFEIT with their singer Jamie Campbell Bower and that he is an amazingly successful English actor. But it had become clear to me that Bower takes his role as a singer in a band as seriously as his life as an actor.

Whitby Goth Weekend by Mutant Movement with Sisters of Murphy, Killing Eve and Klammer
Whitby Gothic Weekend is probably the UK’s best-known Goth festival. Starting in 1994 as a small pub event it has grown and grown over the years. In many ways it has become a victim of its own success, through no fault of its own. Sure, the organisers have over the years had their problems, but the current position of the event becoming a mainstream (twice yearly) Halloween style street party / carnival cannot be laid at their door.

Kissin’ Dynamite - Support: Black Rain & Serpentyne
Friday night’s musical shenanigans had me down in the bowels of the Camden Underworld to see Folk Symphonic Metal band SERPENTYNE supporting BLACK RAIN and KISSIN DYNAMITE. Their support slot was an early one, starting at 6:30pm so I was surprised to see that a good crowd had arrived early to see SERPENTYNE play.
