EP Review
It is one of that cases when the reputation or advertisement is way bigger than the band itself. If you read all what is written about THE JUGGERNAUTS’ debut EP 'Phoenix' you can be really impressed. One of the meanings of the name of the band is “a large, overpowering, destructive force or object, one that destroys or that demands complete self-sacrifice“. The other say they feel the unstoppable power of massive force of bass and beats listening to this album. Unfortunately, this illusion is kept until you open your ears and listen clearly. In fact, THE JUGGERNAUTS is a quite traditional EBM-project with its quite flat electronic patches and lyrics. It doesn't differ much from what you hear at another electronic-party. And the name is the most interesting and confusing part of this all.
If you are curious enough, you'll find out, that the other meaning of the name is “crude idol of Krishna“ and even find a description of the ritual which gave the meaning of destruction to this word - but should I say, that neither the original tracks nor the remixes from such bands as SPETSNAZ, PLASTIC NOISE EXPERIMENT, IMPLANT or TRUE ZEBRA have nothing to do with the authentic meaning of the Hinduism culture. In reality the band shouts out about themselves much louder than their music does. But I have to admit, that the couple of the original tracks are probably too little to recognize the originality and true value of this project. For now it is another EBM band with another bunch of remixes, which are possible to be used to renew your playlist, but not more. Probably the musicians released their work too early, and it would be better if they presented some more original stuff at once. But since the quality of this EP isn't bad at all, it is worth to wait for the further releases.
