EP Review

It was in March that TENEK made our day with their debut album ‘Stateless’ that already had enough fodder for DJs in stock, but TENEK handed out a special disc with club mixes of album tracks anyway. A few copies could also be grabbed by fans through their label Toffeetones for a limited time.

It starts with the ‘JAB KO’ of ‘No Time for Fighting’ building up pressure right from the start with its pumping rhythms, racing away under partly dreamy key layers and the spherical vocals. The ‘Dubs’ Takeover Bid’ of the album’s title track comes with a considerable length of over 10 minutes, which gives any DJ time for a break in the meantime, and the track gets its time to grow layer by layer until the vocals are added to the funky beats, frequently complemented by trance scapes. The ‘Electric Petal’ edition of ‘Breakdown’, just as the original, comes with a rather pugnacious stance which will definitely spring over to the audience on the dance floors. The ‘Cramp’ take on ‘If I Should Fall’ gives more room to the poppy melodies and vocals, while ‘Sate of Mind (Starstruck)’ fuses hymnal as well as more edgy and harder elements to a cohesive mix that sounds like some really classic Future Pop stuff.

I would give you a recommendation for buying if this little record would be out there to buy. But if you have the chance to “officially” get hold of a copy, don’t hesitate as it features some neat remix works.
