Fabrikc, Soman, Combichrist, Welle:Erdball, Grendel, Moonspell, Absurd Minds, The Wounded, Reaper, Prey
The third day of Summer Darkness. Today the market at the Domchurch was open, it was bigger than the years before because the Elf Fantasy had a hand in it this year. People were getting a bit tired it seemed, at least those who had been partying for two nights already. There were a lot of fresh people today though, especially for Prey, The Wounded and Moonspell. Separate tickets were sold, and they were in for quite a treat.

Frontline Assembly, XPQ-21, Schattenschlag, Stromkern, Seaculum, Dead Cell, Inertia, XmH, XP8, Transworld, Gail of God
The fourth and final day. Only two venues this day and not that many famous bands but there was enough to see and hear. Cyber at Tivoli and some metal at the Ekko. Take your pick or enjoy both. Today was also the special Gothic Lolita event. A new style in clothing from Japan where girls (and some men as well) dress up as Victorian dolls.

Time for the second year of Castle Fest! Improvements have been made and anticipation is high. Until two in the morning the night before the big day, people were working to get everything done. In the mean time people at home had their home made outfits, their make-up and bag for the day laying ready besides their beds. Some had been working for quite some time to get their outfit ready for this festival. Besides the music it was great fun to watch all these wonderful creations all day. If you had heard enough music you could go shopping, take part in a workshop, learn how to play games or fight a LARP fight. In the food and drink department there was something for everyone. Some food and drinks were served in genuine Castle Fest earthenware. Besides all of this there was one thing which made this festival so special, the atmosphere. This is probably the most friendly and cosy festival in the Netherlands, with a true hippy mentality.

10th of August 2006
Bauhaus, Chants of Malador
Finally it was time again for the darkest festival of the Netherlands, Summer Darkness. Although…. this year it might just not be so dark. Cyber gothic is more popular then before and neon colours are all around. The usual gothic dresses are staying at home this year, plastic outfits are it! The only big metal band this year is Moonspell, that was probably the darkest dressed crowd of the entire festival. With its city walks, the market, the literary readings, the Lolita event and the gothic picnic the Netherlands can be proud of this festival.

Summer Darkness had of course been opened with the Bauhaus performance on Thursday but the official opening was today. As every year some bands were chosen to perform in the Domchurch (the central church of Utrecht). A wonderful location for the opening of a goth festival. It is always fun to see an entire church filled with people dressed in black and neon colours. Probably the most odd gathering ever in this church. Ataraxia and GOR, both Italian Bands would do an acoustic set, and use the big church as a way to strengthen their sound. Everybody knows about it, and a lot of people wanted to be there. This meant that the church would fill up quite fast, and there was a queue outside, before the first band begun. When I got in, a lot of different people were sitting in the benches and on the extra chairs that were pulled out. But the atmosphere was good, people were looking forward to the festival, and most were meeting up with friends. This was going to be an enchanting start. So after a little talk from the organisation it was time for some music.
