80er live 2024Veltins-Arena, Gelsenkirchen, Germany
23rd March 2024
80s live - “The biggest 80s Party of the world” - with Boy George, Holly Johnson, ABC, Alphaville, Cutting Crew, Gazebo, Paul Young, Samantha Fox, Sandra and Tony Hadley

The 80s were one of the most influential periods. This era was so diverse, not only in terms of fashion, but also musically. In 2023, some heroes and idols of youth from the 80s came together in Düsseldorf for a huge party. After the huge success of this concept, it quickly became clear that it had to be done again. The aim is to top this successful party again in 2024. The Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen was chosen as the location. Located in the heart of the Ruhr region, the football stadium can hold up to 70,000 spectators.

One of the headliners is BOY GEORGE, the voice of the band CULTURE CLUB. The flamboyant man already attracted attention with his outfit back then and will certainly not only be singing ‘Do You Really Want To hurt Me’. Another artist will be HOLLY JOHNSON who caused a few scandals with the band FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD. On songs like ‘Relax’, ‘Welcome To The Pleasuredome’ or ‘Rage Hard’, it was always his voice that made the band recognisable. He is still travelling solo today. Who didn’t know the successful song ‘The Look Of Love’ by the British band ABC? Until the 90s they wrote songs like ‘Poison Arrow’, ‘When Smokey Sings’ or ‘Alphabet Street’. Today the band consists only of the singer Martin Frey.

One of the few German bands that have also enjoyed international success is ALPHAVILLE, led by singer Marian Gold. With the hits ‘Forever Young’, ‘Sounds Like A Melody’ and ‘Big In Japan’, the band is still travelling the world today. One of the most beautiful love songs was definitely ‘(I Just) Died in Your Arms’ by CUTTING CREW. The Brits were at number 1 or at least in the top 10 of the charts in almost every country. Representing the Italo-Pop genre, GAZEBO will be performing on this day. ‘I Like Chopin’ and ‘Lunatic’ were the songs that the kids of the 80s sang along to. ‘Come Back and Stay’, ‘Love of the Common People’ and ‘Every Time You Go Away’ are PAUL YOUNG’s best-known songs. The smart Brit also covered ‘Love Will Tear us Apart’ by JOY DIVISION.

Alongside SAMANTHA FOX from the UK, who became famous with her hit ‘Touch Me’, the second woman to perform on stage will be SANDRA from Germany. She recorded songs such as ‘Maria Magdalena’, ‘In the Heat of the Night’ and the cover ‘Everlasting Love’ with her husband, the successful producer Michael Cretu. TONY HADLEY, the voice of the band SPANDAU BALLET, is sure to perform the big hits ‘Gold’, ‘Through The Barricades’ and ‘True’ in front of the big backdrop. The programme is hosted by Peter Illmann. He knows the 80s and the artists of that time like no other. As presenter of the music programme Formel 1, he also knew the stars personally.
