21st Wave-Gotik-Treffen Day 1: Todtgelichter, Projekt Mensch, Coma Divine, Blazing Eternity, Project Pitchfork, Lacuna Coil and Eisbrecher
It is the weekend of Whitsun and what to Gothics and all followers of dark music do at that time? Right, they are all making their way towards Leipzig to this year's Wave-Gotik-Treffen (WGT). About 20.000 people mostly dressed in black come to this get-together each year in order to enjoy concerts, theatre performances or operas all over town. Our first day of the WGT started at the Kohlrabizirkus which hold a lot of concert this year again after not being part of the festival last year. Happy about that change, we got into one of the many trams and were looking forward to the first band of the WGT: TODTGELICHTER. Filled with a lot of metal, also PROJECT PITCHFORK made it onto our plan for this day. This day was promised to be good opener for the 21. Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2012.

Killswitch Engage & Axewound
At the start of this year, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE parted ways with their signer Howard Jones. Soon after, it was announced that their original singer Jesse Leach would take up his role again as a front man. KILLSWITCH ENGAGE clearly doesn’t like to waste their time, kicking off with a series of live shows and a new album to be released this summer. Tonight’s show at Tivoli was the first show in The Netherlands with the new formation. Support was taken care of by AXEWOUND.

Prong & Coal Black
It was a very hot day in May when PRONG were coming to Bochum for a very special event. It was announced that the band was going to play two sets during the evening. In one set, the band would play the entire ‘Beg to Differ’ album and the other one would be a “Best-Of” set including new material as well. It turned out slightly different, but more to that later. As support act, COAL BLACK were opening the evening.

Deine Lakaien - Acoustic
When it comes to DEINE LAKAIEN, you never could speak about “normal” concerts. Ernst Horn and Alexander Veljanov always surprise the listener with their creativity. DEINE LAKAIEN stand out due to the perfect musical combination of Veljanov’s vocals and electronic as well as acoustic instruments. It doesn’t matter if they perform with the full band, with a philharmonic orchestra like during their 2007 “20 Years of Electronic Avantgarde” orchestra tour or totally acoustic when the distinctive voice of Alexander is accompanied by the virtuous piano play of Ernst only. The band already played acoustic shows before and now they are back for another acoustic tour, touching all 25 years of the band’s career, presenting hits and rarities in an acoustic outfit. The show in Offenbach was definitely pure DEINE LAKAIEN! Unique and incomparable!

Steven Wilson
Aside from being busy working with his main project, the Progressive Rock formation PORCUPINE TREE, Steven Wilson has always been branching out into different genres and under different monikers like the pop-rock oriented BLACKFIELD together with Aviv Geffen, the rather experimental ambient/noise sounds of BASS COMMUNION, or the eclectic pop of NO-MAN. Finally, in 2008 there was news about a solo album, later to be called ‘Insurgentes’ and released later that year. Encouraged by the success the album met with, work on a sophomore started. ‘Grace For Drowning’, a double album, dropped in late 2011 with which he branched out, incorporating elements of the classic prog rock possibly inspired by his work with KING CRIMSON and Jazz. http://www.swhq.co.uk / https://www.facebook.com/pages/Steven-Wilson-Official-page/114657261887878
