Subway to Sally - “Nackt” acoustic tour
‘Subway to Sally’ - this name stands for an ecstatic stage show, hard rocking guitars in a wild mix with the violin of Mrs. Schmidt and the bagpipes of Eric Fish. The announcement of a pure acoustic set interested me, but, however, I could not really imagine it. Because of that I went to the Scala filled with mixed feelings. The Scala is a former cinema and it is a quite unusual place. Therefore it was the ideal venue for this concert. The scenery made of huge chairs and sacred window arches produced a special atmosphere. The Scala disposes beside a slightly sloping interior of a seated balcony from which you could see the concert really like in a cinema.

The Dreamside, Dark Sanctuary, Encryption
This was a night I had been looking forward too, a Dreamside performance and in addition the first Dutch performance of Dark Sanctuary. I didn’t know Encryption yet but it turned out to be a great match with Dark Sanctuary… the only thing that kept me wondering was the combination between those two bands and the main act of the evening, what a difference in sound, and yet they can both sound intense.

Schandmaul & Regicide
‘Schandmaul’ released their last album ‘Mit Leib und Seele’only a few weeks ago. Now they are on tour telling their stories. Karlsruhe has always been a good station for ‘Schandmaul’. Their last concert in the Substage has been sold out and so they are now playing in the Festhalle which is quite bigger. Already the opener Regicide hit on an almost full hall.

Anathema, The Wounded
When I found out that Anathema was playing again I couldn’t do anything else but going. A week before May 4 this concert was interspersed, but still a lot of fans found out that Anathema and The Wounded were going to play. Anathema had just returned form their 2 weeks tour, supporting the Finnish band HIM during their tour in England.

Garden of Delight, His Masters Voice, Buried Time
Friday night is usually a good day for a concert evening. And if there are three bands playing for just nine euros there should be lots of people coming to the show. Unfortunately not that many decided to make their way to Bochum to see ‘Garden of Delight’ together with two more bands. Anyway I was really looking forward the headliner because I’ve never seen them before. After ‘Lutherion’ in 2005 the band recently released ‘Lutherion II’ - a good reason to visit the clubs for presenting the new stuff on stage.
