Laibach - “The Coming Race Tour - Love is still alive”
LAIBACH are at Fabrik Coesfeld after almost 36 years with one of their rare and exclusive live shows. ‘Love is Still Alive’ is a song created for the sci-fi comedy ‘Iron Sky - The Coming Race’. Film and song deal with the apocalyptic: the world has ended, a few people have survived, they escape into the universe and fly to Mars, where they found their own colony. Post-post-colonialism, if you will, LAIBACH for Future. At the beginning of 2021, LAIBACH released the original soundtrack for this film. There are also insights into their musical ‘Wir sind das Volk’ and a cross-section of the repertoire of a band that is legendary because it has created its own artistic gesture.
Since their founding in 1980 in the mining town of Trbovlje in what was then communist Yugoslavia, LAIBACH have repeatedly broken conventions and crossed barriers. The artist collective “Neue Slowenische Kunst” (NSK), which LAIBACH sees as part of, elevates playing with ideology to the highest art and accordingly often offends. The on the one hand affirmative, but on the other hand also deeply ironic aesthetics of the NSK shapes the artist collective to this day.
