FÏX8:SËD8 unveil a sinister video for the remastered track ‘Monolith (Rebuilt World)’ as the final single taken from the forthcoming reissue of the German dark electro act’s first two albums ‘humanophobia:dormicum’.

In order to understand the images used in the clip it should be remembered that the concept of ‘humanophobia’ was inspired by FÏX8:SËD8 mastermind Martin Sane visiting the former Cambodian concentration camp S-21 (‘Security Office 21’). Between the years 1975 to 1979 the Khmer Rouge regime imprisoned and tortured citizens believed to resist the extremist communist ideology in the compound. It has been estimated that up to 2 of the 7 million inhabitants of Khmer Rouge controlled Cambodia were murdered. Of the 14,200 victims incarcerated in S-21 only 7 confirmed survivors escaped the terror.

Stefan Herwig comments: “Only few people know that the album ‘humanophobia’ was largely produced by Daniel Myer from HAUJOBB”, the Dependent label founder & manager reveals. “This makes sense considering that HAUJOBB started out as strongly influenced by iconic bands from the Vancouver scene such as SKINNY PUPPY or FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY as Martin Sane and FÏX8:SËD8 were. Both bands went on to cultivate their very own style with each new album. The track ‘Monolith (Rebuilt World)’ illuminates the massive potential that this project has shown from the start.”

When FÏX8:SËD8 released their fifth album ‘The Inevitable Relapse’ in January 2021, the dark electro act had already become an established force within the industrial scene. Deriving their name from the psychiatric terms “fixated / sedated”, the German project founded by Martin Sane embarked on their musical journey with two self-released albums that have long been sold out and remain much sought after by collectors.

The debut ‘humanophobia’ arrived in 2006 and was produced by HAUJOBB’s Daniel Myer, while the sophomore full-length ‘dormicum’ that came out in 2009 was self-produced. The early connection to HAUJOBB went beyond the act of producing the first record. FÏX8:SËD8 could easily be seen as soulmates, whose general development resembled the course of their compatriots. Both bands established their own soundscapes by continuously moving away from their musical paragons, which in the beginning were mainly Canadian cult acts such as SKINNY PUPPY and FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY.

FÏX8:SËD8 came into being with the impressive concept album ‘humanophobia’ that dared to artistically deal with one of the greatest crimes in the history of mankind. After visiting Cambodia and one of the so-called killing fields and former internment camps of the Khmer Rouge regime (1975-79) under Pol Pot, Martin Sane exorcised the haunting images of the communist genocide that killed a large part of the population through the creation of particularly dark electronic music. The music remained dark but there was also an obvious evolution expressed in a more focused songwriting and refined style when the second album ‘dormicum’ started to circle in the electro industrial underground in 2009. Although self-produced and self-released, the second full-length reached an even greater audience.

With each following album reaching a new high-water mark in terms of songwriting and production, the calls for a reissue of the first two releases became continuously louder. Generally preferring to move forward, FÏX8:SËD8 took some years before they were ready to look back. For Sane it was out of the question to just drop the early material in a loveless manner. This sparked the idea of an artbook collecting both titles. Furthermore, the collaboration with PYRROLINE thought leader Arnte and his keen skills of production and mixing had already benefited ‘The Inevitable Relapse’. This made him the obvious choice for a remaster of both first albums. Luckily, Arnte soon agreed to the task and expertly executed the job.

At long last, the legendary first two FÏX8:SËD8 albums will soon be available again. Get ready to return the early days of Martin Sane’s electronic industrial darkness with ‘humanophobia:dormicum’.
