It was June 2013, when large Rock The Beach festival took place in Helsinki, organized by a global promoter Livenation. The festival had two huge stages and a small one. Small stage was even not so big deal, sponsored by a local jeans shop, whose makeshift version also situated in the festival grounds. But commercial huge bands weren't interesting at times, and in lack of real outcome from some supposedly big acts, well-advertised names no wonder that I end up to check small stage almost involuntary. And there were ROYAL REPUBLIC.

Christmas Metal Symphony with Floor Jansen (Nightwish), Udo Dirkschneider (U.D.O, Ex - Accept), Joacim Cans (Hammerfall), Joey Belladonna (Anthrax), Chuck Billy (Testament), Michael Kiske (Unisonic, Ex - Helloween)

Normally at Christmas, people chill out, relax and get together with their families. But not on this Wednesday evening! No wonder if artist like Chuck Billy, Joey Belladonna and many more prepare to bring you a Christmas event you won`t see every year. Christmas Metal Symphony is kind of Metal all-star gathering, supported by a symphony orchestra. Quite a special event I would say. Sad enough that not more people were coming to enjoy a really extraordinary show.

On this evening, a small crowd of brave people fought their way through the winter mist to attend the performances of two very extraordinary musicians at the little Café Sputnik in Münster. With the Café, there was the perfect, little and intimate location found for such a special concert.

Turisas & Ensiferum

Finnish Battle Metal heads TURISAS released their fourth album ‘Turisas2013’ in this year’s summer. Of course, the release is followed by a tour, leading them to their home country in December where they played in Helsinki on December 7th, supported by ENSIFERUM, who also had a home play in Finland.

Sigur Rós

Icelandic band SIGUR RÓS is the second most important cultural export item of Iceland (with BJÖRK being the first). The unique style of the band is easily recognizable: melancholic, “cosmic” and relying to complex sound, a post-rock with "melodic, minimalistic and classic elements". Despite not employing typical music ways to get to wide popularity, the band is truly famous. One can listen to their tracks in many movies (an Icelandic episode of The Simpsons being one of these).
