Eisbrecher, She's All That

The new EISBRECHER album 'Eiszeit' is hardly out but the guys are already busy touring the republic presenting their new stuff amongst other things. The show in Duisburg was announced to be sold-out and indeed streams of people were already waiting in front of the venue when I arrived shortly before the doors opened.

She's All That

The 3 mysterious guys, working under the name SHE'S ALL THAT are active in the music business for a couple of years already. They gained some significant exposure with their song 'Jabtac' being on heavy rotation on BBC Radio1 for over a year, as well as by rocking a string of clubs and festivals into the ground by now. On 12th March, they debuted with the album 'Extra Fruity Disgusting' SHE'S ALL THAT is SueShi (vocals), Nik (drums), Bastard (keys / samples) and Dirty J (live guitar). http://www.shesallthat.de/ / http://www.myspace.com/shesallthatmusic

Music & Performance
What are you supposed to think of a band , entering the stage dressed in reflecting suits and wearing odd masks. First of all that they have a waggish sense of humour; and if you give it a second thought they might even become mad men. Their style of music differs from the main acts' in the way that it builds a little more on electronics, combining them with hard riffs which on the other hand comes full circle again with EISBRECHER. The strangest thing however was singer SueShi's voice, which sounded like the one of a woman, and considering you never really saw the face that could as well be the case.

The band laid down an energetic performance and even was able to infect the waiting EISBRECHER fans that, as SueShi aptly put it, saved their energy for their show. But at least they could get 35% out of them which was still loud enough. I have to say, even though the show had something to it, the music didn't strike a chord with me and I felt nothing.

Eisbrecher

EISBRECHER was formed in 2003 after former MEGAHERTZ singer Alexx Wesselsky left the band over creative differences, co-founding member was another ex-band member Noel Pix. Then in 2004, they debuted with their self-titled album; there was a heavy outcry due to the band adding two CD-Rs as an incentive to copy the album and as a statement against the criminalization of the end-customer through the music industry. The sophomore ‘Antikörper’ became a big success for EISBRECHER charting at #85 of the German album charts. Ever busy with touring, the band meanwhile has a huge following and EISBRECHER shows usually are nearly or completely sold-out. The newest part of the saga is named 'Eiszeit' and was just released a week ago. http://www.eis-brecher.com/ / http://www.myspace.com/eisbrecherkommando

Music & Performance
It just took a little while for the stage hands to rebuild the stage for the main act EISBRECHER, who entered the room preceded and accompanied by an arctic wind, dressed in thick winter jackets. The perfect mood was established and the current single 'Eiszeit' expectably came like a bombshell and stirred the blood of the people in the packed room, just as the following 'Angst' did with driving rhythms and metal hard riff storms. Afterwards followed one of Alex's speeches with some little side blows to a currently very famous personality, raising a few laughs. The next phase brought us far back into the past with the classic 'Willkommen im Nichts' to give way to the crowd pleaser 'Leider' from the last album 'Sünde'. Up to that point, Alex had lain off some clothes already and was loudly encouraged by the ladies to undress - as always.

An ode to the aforementioned gender then was showcased with 'Böse Mädchen', going straight back to the current album 'Eiszeit'. As an all time favourite in their repertoire 'Vergissmeinicht' couldn't be missed out of course and, figuratively speaking, provoked euphoric reactions in the audience like loud singing, collective clapping etc. A funny moment came up with Alex and Jürgen taking place on two stools and intonating the German schlager tune 'Tränen lügen nicht' with loud help of the crowd, and an ironic foray into UNHEILIG territory with some lines out of 'Geboren um zu Leben'. Brachial 'Heilig' brought a short visit of Alex, coming down the stairs to the audience "pool". He put the front rows even more into rapture on 'Zeichen der Venus', where he stirred them up even more being almost as close to them as possible.

When EISBRECHER left the stage afterwards, their crowd literally begged for more stuff. First thing they got to see were a couple oil drums which were used on the following 'Amok' as additional percussions. Quite impressing scenery. 'Miststück' which traditionally ends with the famous rap section ended the encore and I was quite certain the show had found its end now, but the guys actually came back one more time for a furious showcase of 'Mein Blut'. The air was thick, there were too many people in the room and my system was close to collapsing at one point but the show was a blast.
