Markthalle (Marx), Hamburg, Germany
1st May 2010
Diorama

On Saturday 1st May we had the pleasure to enjoy DIORAMA live on stage in Hamburg. When we arrived short before 20:00 at the Markthalle, where the concert was scheduled to take place in the smaller club “Marx”, already several people were waiting for the doors to open. Since there was no support and the show was not going to start before 21:00, people were enjoying some drinks in the foyer and used the time for chatting with friends.

DIORAMA was founded by Torben Wendt between 1994 and 1996. His long-time friend Felix Marc soon joined him as a co-producer and keyboard player. Sometime later, bass player Bernard le Sigue and guitarist Sash Fiddler, who were fellow students of Torben and Felix, gradually grew into the line-up and last but not least drummer Marquess became a member of the band. Bernard le Sigue left the band in October 2006. The current album called ‘Cubed’ and was released in March 2010, peaking up now on number one in German Alternative Charts. DIORAMA is Torben Wendt (words and music, vocals, keys, percussion), Felix Marc (co-production, keys, vocals), Sash Fiddler (guitars) and Marquess (drums). http://www.diorama-music.com/ / http://www.myspace.com/dioramamusic

Music & Performance
Just when we arrived at the location we met the band members in the foyer and one hour later just in time they entered the small stage in the venue "Marx" to started their show. During the following next 100 minutes, DIORAMA bewitched the audience with a finest selection of ingenious and powerful Synth pop songs. The quite small venue was very well filled and soon it got very hot inside. Quickly, the crowd was infected by the emotional rousing performance and people were dancing and singing along. The set list consisted of 16 songs, starting with the current single ‘Child of Entertainment’ followed by songs from the current album as well as older songs like ‘Kein Mord’, ‘Advance’ or ‘Synthesize Me’ from the previous album.

On one side of the stage, there was a second keyboard arranged which was used by Torben some times for additional piano parts. During the song ‘Stereotype’, Marquess got a garland from a fan in the first row causing quite a few laughs on and in front of stage. Quickly the time flew by and after about 75 minutes the main set finished with already mentioned ‘Synthesize Me’ and the band left the stage. As expected the crowd wasn't tired and required an encore which was given with three more songs starting with the wonderful ballad ‘Belle’, followed by ‘Erase Me’ and ‘Why’ before DIORAMA finally left the stage. The band on stage had a lot of fun to perform their songs and the temper within the crowd was great.

Unfortunately the light engineer was missed, he played truant, and the light was static during the show. Altogether it was a great show and the people left the concert happy and satisfied.
