Nocturnal Culture Night Day 3: Weak, EGOamp, Lizard Pool, E-Craft, Reading Christian Krumm, Decoded Feedback, Orph, Darkhaus, Reading Anja Bagus & Christian von Aster, Solar Fake, Evi Vine, NamNamBulu, Hidden Place, Umbra et Imago, The Legendary Pink Dots, Das Ich, No More, Project Pitchfork
When we woke up on that Sunday morning looking out the window we thought: Oh my god, this will be a wet day! It was raining, and raining. Luckily it stayed rather dry during the whole day and only UMBRA ET IMAGO had to fight the rain. Right in time for the first band, WEAK, opening the main stage, we were ready to start the last festival day with fulminant headliner PROJECT PITCHFORK.

Nocturnal Culture Night Day 2: Telemark, Herren, Sündenklang, Cryo, No Sleep by the Machine, Reading Axel Hildebrand, Deviant UK, Stein, Mundtot, Reading Lydia Benecke, She Past Away, MARS, The Beauty of Gemina, Ash Code, Whispers in the Shadow, Raison d’être, Conjure One, Sixth June, Agonoize, Kite, In Strict Confidence, Twice a Man, Oomph!, Henric de la Cour
During the first festival day, the weather god was really nice to us. Not so nice he was at the second day when it was pouring down during the show of WHISPERS IN THE SHADOW. Besides, the day was quite cold too. Nevertheless it offered some of my absolute festival favourites, like the shows of KITE or HENRIC DE LA COUR. Another surprise was the very first show of the day, delivered by TELEMARK. But of course the day had much more to offer…

Marc Almond
Finally I had the chance to see one of my heroes of my youth performing live at the nice venue Bürgerhaus Stollwerck in Cologne. And apparently I wasn’t the only one who was eager to see him as this place, with a capacity of 500 guests, was completely filled. Most of the audience was roughly my age so you could assume that the people were fans from the early beginning. But before I could finally enter the venue it took me almost half an hour to find a parking place so that I had to fear not to arrive before the show starts. And once again my love-hate for this city was assured. Cologne, you have so many nice venues in different sizes - small ones in pubs that give you almost a living room feeling, midsize ones and then at last the big arenas - but you have a severe lack of parking opportunities or you have to pay a fortune.

A worthwhile finale of the festival season for me became a local metal festival in Munich, called DarkNight. The two day event took place at the Gasteig cultural centre. The location itself seems to be quite interesting even though it’s not so easy to find. As for the festival, it definitely has its moments, presenting a variety of metal genres and subgenres and giving bands, many of which are promising but not so well-known, a chance to show their potential. And I must say that they succeeded. So those who saw shows on the 11th and 12th of September had enough time to head-bang and maybe discover this or that formation, never heard before. Although it will be too hard and long to describe everything, I confine myself to reviewing the set of MUNDTOT, the only band I knew off the whole line-up.
