Amphi Festival
The fever rises. On 19th & 20th July 2008, the Amphi Festival starts into its fourth round and for another time it invites to the dark dance under the sign of the cologne cathedral, when the pulsating Rhine metropolis welcomes their truly extraordinary guests, whose peaceful and friendly attitude doesn’t fit to their dark look at first sight. After 9.000 fans celebrated in the enthusiastic circle of the Goth family last year, the Amphi Festival puts one on top in 2008. Venue for this year’s Amphi Festival will again be the Tanzbrunnen at the lakeside promenades of the Rhine, which gives utterance to the saying (Cologne, you’re an emotion) like no other.
With 34 bands on 2 stages - Open Air as well as in the theatre - the Amphi Festival is complete by now and remains true to itself again by providing a top program. Diversified like never before; top quality acts meet extraordinary pearls of the scene, from the kilt to the electro hammer, between harshness and dark romantic.
This time OOMPH! will enter the ring as headliners. With hits like ‘Augen auf’, ‘Gott ist ein Popstar’ or ‘Träumst du’, the rockers from the car city Wolfsburg reached an audience of millions and especially live, they’re an undisputed force. Packed in a thundering Tour de Force, Dero, Crap & Flux will present their biggest hits as well as fresh material from the new album due for a release in 2008. AND ONE will bless their fans with great jokers and party grenades. Infected by the Amphi fever, the body poppers return because of passion to finish what they’ve started in 2006 and to bring the mood at the Tanzbrunnen in Cologne to a boil, while the ‘Technoman’ builds the woman of his dreams. That’s how true love sounds.
We welcome DEINE LAKAIEN exclusively on the Amphi Festival 2008 who made their dream of an orchestra tour come true last year. After their return to the original sound, the old masters of the electronic avant-garde will be guests at the Tanzbrunnen with a Best-of program, when Alexander Veljanov raises his Bariton and Ernst Horn rushes through the sound laboratory again. Another highlight of the Amphi Festival always had its own style. This band which isn’t one considering their name, belongs to the few phenomenon’s, you can’t put into a drawing so easily regardless of their success and if there was any it had to be called: PROJECT PITCHFORK
You don’t have to make many words about COVENANT and DIARY OF DREAMS. One is the most danceable export from Sweden and the other a black monolith of sublime perfection. Dark, intense and full of fascinating secrets the works of mastermind Adrian Hates get worldwide acceptation. Whether it’s Moscow, Rome or Cape Town, all around the globe DIARY OF DREAMS touch their fans and will surely put a spell on the Amphi audience.
But this isn’t the end. Besides the only festival appearance of the Austrian duo L’AME IMMORTELLE, a Best-of Show of DAS ICH or a reunion with WELLE:ERDBALL and SUICIDE COMMANDO, it will come to the clash of generations between the Norwegian hellectro strikers COMBICHRIST and the Old School legends THE KLINIK. A feast for every Electro head. Admirers of rather guitar oriented sounds can look forward to ZEROMANCER, the Gothic Rockers LACRIMAS PROFUNDERE (also exclusive) and a reunion with EISBRECHER who conquered the hearts of the last year’s Amphi audience in a storm. A bit of Italian temper from the shooting stars of THE LOVECRAVE and the devil’s violins of LETZTE INSTANZ will turn the Tanzbrunnen a hot place in which the also the death rockers represented by CINEMA STRANGE will leave a trace for the first time in 2008.
While the main stage provides a diversified program on both days, the Theatre presents a topic bound program. On Saturday 19th July on the “Electro-Stage” it’s all about the world of machines contrary to the “Gothic Stage” on Sunday, 20th July which is all dedicated to the black-colourful variety.
The Amphi attendees can expect two bonbons with our Amphi encore. According to numerous wishes from the audience, Swedish shooting stars of ASHBURY HEIGHTS will enrich the festival line-up. Accompanied by incredible feedback both from fans and press, ASHBURY HEIGHTS celebrate diversified synth pop on the highest level on it, whose dance appeal is only exceeded by it seducing ingenuity. Such a jewel can’t be missed at the Amphi Fetsival, just like the legendary steel cookers of DIE KRUPPS. Under the motto “The Final Option” Jürgen Engler & Co invite you to the big concluding show I the theatre on Sunday evening. With re-recorded classics of their Best of album “Too Much History”still ahead of the present, the masters of Industrial Rock are ready for new adventures and on the Amphi Festival, they present a collection of brand new songs veiled in the steely coat of timeless classics.
Of course, the best program is nothing without a voice presenting it and with Honey (WELLE:ERDBALL) and “Drill Sergeant” Jens (FUNKER VOGT) we recruited two specialists, who will surely entertain the Amphi audience with a dry sense of humour and musical knowledge.
The Social Program 2008
Aside from the fireworks on stage, also the social program of the Amphi Festival 2008 cuts a fine figure.
Amphi Cup:
In the extended frame of the Amphi Festival 2008, respectively on Friday, 18th July, the very first Amphi Cup starts at 7:30 PM. In the hall of the Cologne “Indoor Soccer Wessels Ltd” the biggest indoor football arena in Europe, 5 teams consisting music notables, Amphi attendees, sponsors, organizers and representatives of the media will step up for the hunt after the rolling ladder. On the side of the musicians you can expect Jens and Gerrit (Funker Vogt), Bruno Kramm (Das Ich), die guys of ZERAPHINE and many more. Official Pre-Party:
Directly after the sports, we continue with the official Amphi Festival Pre-Party. As of 10 PM, DJ Elvis invites you to dance in the location “Alter Wartesaal”, including additional light show, video projections on three walls, special VIP guests and Meet & Greets. The musical program of the night is under the motto “Depeche Mode vs. Sleepwalker Night” with the best of Synthpop, Futurepop, EBM, Industrial-Electro, New Wave and many more. Aftershowparties
For the first time in 2008, 2 big after show parties will take place in the theatre. Live at the turntables is a large number of renowned scene DJs that will turn the night into day, across all styles. In on the party are: Daniel Myer (Haujobb), DJ Elvis (The Memphis), DJ Thomas Rainer (Nachtmahr/L´Âme Immortelle), DJ Mike (Matrix / Bochum) and many more.
Dealer’s Mile & Gothic-Family.Net
Under the open skies, a ramble through the area could be worth it. While a well-assorted dealer’s mile invites to an extensive shopping tour, the Amphi Festival is very happy to welcome Germany’s biggest Gothic Family network with a stall at the Tanzbrunnen. As an ideal meeting point for families with kids “Gothic-Familay.net” arranges a big program for adults and children with free draw- and play offerings, familiar signing sessions and many more. A separate parent-child area (i.e. Play & diaper corner) will provide for an overall successful family festival experience.
Signing Sessions
Always well-known and of course part of this year’s Amphi Fetsival: The signing sessions. On Saturday as of 1:00 PM and Sunday as of 11:00 AM, the bands will swing their water-proof pens again at the usual place across from the theatre at the Tanzbrunnen. Whether it’s a photo or a personal dedication; bands take their time for their fans here in a familiar atmosphere.
Unheilig Fanday
Even though UNHEILIG won’t be live on stage this year, The Count also stays true to the Amphi Festival in 2008 as a fellow right from the start. As special guest on Sunday 20th July 2008, he will be on hand the whole day in the frame of a Meet & Greet and will also present the new UNHEILIG EP ‘Spiegelbild’, which will be released on 18th July 2008.
Cinema screening: Operation Zeitsturm - The first Welle:Erdball Movie
This is for all the early birds: WELLE:ERDBALL will go on a dangerous mission: Both on 19th and on 20th July at 10:45 AM each, the ‘Operation Zeitsturm’ starts. The first movie of and with WELLE:ERDBALL can be seen exclusively at the Amphi Festival in full-length.
Better than Ever - Organizational Innovations at the Amphi Festival
With constant ticket fees the Amphi Festival 2008 shows itself considerably improved in many points and offers its attendees more than ever. A new structured schedule, providing the bands with more playing time, additional sanitary facilities and a brand-new parking-place concept are just a few of many improvements, the Amphi Festival the Amphi Festival will convince with this year.
As of now the parking areas P2, P3, P4, P5, P6 and P11 are available for all festival attendees. The areas are in close proximity to the Tanzbrunnen and are reachable in about 5 minutes. Of course the parking at those places is free for all festival attendees. Furthermore, the visitors can expect a 3.000m2-bonbon with the use of the adjacent Beach club to chill and enjoy, while the new Cocktail, Long drink and Met bars enhance the list of beverages with some alluring creations
For all you railway fans that like to travel to the festival by train, the Amphi Festival offers nationwide tickets to “Köln Messe/Deutz” at a reduced price for the fist time in cooperation with German Railways. Attendees of the festival who have to travel less than 350 kilometres only pay 69,- Euro this year for a 2nd class ticket incl. return requiring a mandatory reservation of a fixes train. Tickets for journeys over 350 kilometres to Cologne and back (Also with a fixed train connection) will cost 109, - EUR in the 2nd class. You’ll find further information and booking possibilities for the new service are available under this link.
In cooperation with the Cologne Bank AG, we’ll provide an EC / Cash machine as a service for our visitors on the festival grounds.
