Kulturfabrik, Krefeld, Germany
24th November 2005
Epica, Flowing Tears, Xystus
Some concerts may have to start with a disaster and problems to turn out into a fantastic and great show. The part of the Kulturfabrik where the bands should play has a volume for 300 people, but only 83 tickets have been bought in advance booking offices. On that day, “Epica” came from Potsdam with a delay of 7 hours, because of the bad weather situation. So there wasn’t really time for anything and after the concert they still wanted to start the trip to Milan where they should play on the next day. So everything was in a hurry. The club with the small stage and with the little crowd made me feel like being in the band’s rehearsal room somehow. But also a small crowd (and there were also many Dutch Fans) can make a lot of noise and create a great atmosphere.

electriXmas festival: CombiChrist, Vive la fête, Seabound, Dupont, Code 64
This year’s eX was the second one I was going to and I was looking very much forward to it. I really liked the atmosphere in the venue last year and the line up sounded very good to me as well. So I took my chance to travel to Sweden again. After the successful “Virtual Christmas” festivals the new eX was taking place in 2002 for the first time and is now one of Sweden’s basic festivals playing electronic music always happening in December just before Christmas. Besides the live music it is a tradition to give a compilation CD to the guests, combining contributions from the performing artists and other important acts of today (more often than not, contributing exclusive tracks or mixes) with local talents, some of which are still on the demo stage and illustrate the future of electronic music. The venue holds about 750 guests in an intimate setting, allowing every guest a great view of the events. This year’s line up provided again artists from several countries… so there were two bands from Sweden (Code 64 and Dupont), CombiChrist from Norway, Seabound from Germany and Vive la Fête from Belgium. http://www.electrixmas.org

Life of Agony & Green Lizard
Since Life of Agony’s reunion in 2003 I was really looking forward to see them again. Ok, ok, I have seen them already at Graspop 2004, but in my eyes it’s something completely different to experience this band at a festival than in a smaller clubs. I really prefer easy to grab venues. The atmosphere is more private and relaxed.
And tonight was the night! Life of Agony hit the stage of a very nice location in Utrecht, called Tivoli. The guys from New York are always a guarantee for a very exciting and unforgettable evening. That’s a fact which was proven a couple of times in the past. But are they still the same? Or do I expect too much. Lets wait and see.

Apoptygma Berzerk and SONO
Apoptygma Berzerk and SONO – old school and new school electro together on tour. What a great combination; one that meant we had to see the show in Dortmund. Both bands just released new albums – APB are turning again into another direction with “You and me against the World” using more guitars than ever while SONO are moving further on the mainly electronic way with “Off”.
