July 1st 2006
Shaboon, Bloodsimple, Trivium, Born from Pain, Stream of Passion, Stone Sour, Kamelot, Alice in Chains, After Forever, Nile, Soulfly, Helloween, Motorhead
This years edition of Waldrock was a bit later then we are used to. Instead of June, this year the first of July the gates of Waldrock would open and treat about 5000 visitors to a traditional metal festival like were used to. First of all: de big difference with the past.. well.. eleven years: the weather. This weekend the temperature rose over 30 degrees Celsius. That means dust, sweat and brining a lot of sunscreen. Together with a lot of great bands the perfect ingredients for a great festival.

Bolków, Poland
28th to 30th July 2006
Castle Party Festival: Deathcamp Project, Clan of Xymox, VNV Nation, Dust Heaven, The Birthday Massacre, Leaves' Eyes, De/Vision
Fire and ice, or I should rather say the heat and cold was what we experienced during the 13th edition of Castle Party Festival in Bolków, Poland. And I mean not only musically - the weather tested us quite bitterly, but being a tough one I managed to survive. :) Well, some institutions tend to skip the number 13 in their registers; however 13 seemed to be lucky for CP, as we had really good fun. Eighteen bands in two days, numerous DJs and DJanes from Central and Eastern Europe and abundance of visitors from all over the continent proved a splendid combination once again. Castle Party has been taking place regularly every year since 1994 and it is undoubtedly the biggest festival in this part of Europe. Being a unique event, it attracts "freaks" from Poland and abroad and provides wonderful atmosphere and great music. This year the city was taken over by the dark nation on 28th July and given back on 30th. Here's what was going on. http://castleparty.com

Fish and Nailpin
It was supposed to be a bright and shiny day, like the weather forcast announced, but the dark clouds above the festival ground on the beach proved the opposite. Nevermore a group of die-hard fans had gathered themselves in front of the stage to see Nailpin.

The Birthday Massacre
The Canadian band ‘The Birthday Massacre’ gave their first live-concert in Berlin. Their support act was ‘Jesus on Extasy’. ‘Klimt 1918’ had been scheduled as well but they could not make it due to bad weather conditions. http://www.nothingandnowhere.com/

Kulturfabrik, Krefeld, Germany
28th July 2006
The Birthday Massacre, Atargatis, The Slimp
It was well over a year since my last visit to Krefeld, but only a few days since I saw The Birthday Massacre. That time on a very cool ship in the harbour of Copenhagen, Denmark. I was very eager to compare that performance with the one I was about to see. And of course also to catch the performances of the other two bands, that actually were quite unknown to me.
