It was already hot on that summer Sunday when we woke up. And during the day, it nearly became unbearable. Bright sunshine and temperatures far beyond 30 degrees Celsius were awaiting us at the Tanzbrunnen. Luckily, there were some points where you could fill up your bottles with drinking water and besides, the security were also providing water for the people in front of stage. Early, short before twelve, the first band of the day entered the stage in the Staatenhaus.

Bad Religion “True North Tour” - Support: The Ghost Rockets
More than 30 years of Punk Rock - BAD RELIGION are one of the most influential bands in this genre. With their current album ‘True North’, which was released in early 2013, BAD RELIGION have shown once again that they still do for what they are known. Mostly short, melodic and pithy songs which are more than a simple "Punk Rock Song". Time, then, to come over to Europe again to play some new songs besides classics that have certainly influenced many bands.

Nordstern Festival 2013 Day 2: Aesthetic Perfection, NamNamBulu, Zeromancer, De/Vision, Diary of Dreams, Camouflage
The second festival day started rather relaxed with sleeping long and having an extended breakfast. Since the doors opened at 14:00, there was enough time to prepare for a hot day. When we arrived at the open air stage at Stadtpark, the sun was already high and not a single cloud was visible. The stage and the area were really appealing and cosy. Opposite the stage behind a ring of hedges, there were several stand with food, beverages and merchandise, enough to spend the time in-between the bands.

Cologne, the German city harbouring that famous little cathedral, called all dark creatures back to the Rheinpark grounds again for the 9th Amphi festival. Also in 2013, the organizers have thought of a diversified line-up. VNV NATION and FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM surely are names to mention here first. But there are so many more to mention…

Amphi Opening Event 'Call the ships to port': Classic & Depeche, Welle:Erdball, Covenant
The Amphi Festival 2013 was already opening on Friday, 19th July, with an exclusive event aboard the “MS RheinEnergie”, Europe´s biggest and most sophisticated domestic event ship, cruising the Rhine river. What a brilliant idea that was! This special opening event featured a programme with 3 live-acts, performing unique sets they never played before or which deviate from their regular festival setlists. And with COVENANT as headliner the organiser of the Amphi Festival had the perfect title for their new and exclusive event. Even the ticket in form of a pass at a lanyard was quite special as it came with a lush metal box. In the box there was a program (log book), a postcard and a sticker, too. Further you got a T-shirt at the check-in. This special box set was limited to 1,111 units and was already sold out months ago. The “MS RheinEnergie” is a big catamaran with a main, an upper and a foredeck. The stage was at the main deck but the audience had also a great view to the stage from the upper deck.
